Sending Twitter messages from an iridium handset

Steve Wall - Friday, October 25, 2013

You can use your iridium handset to send twitter messages through their sms service. This is how to set it up.

You will first need to setup the Twitter account via SMS. The best way to do this is by these simple steps.

  • Send a text message with the word START to your Twitter shortcode (40404 for the Iridium system).
- To send the message from the phone you need to register the phone on the satellite system and then go to:

Menu > Messages > Create Message >Enter "START" > Options > Send > Add > Select > Enter "40404" > OK

  • Twitter will send you a reply and ask you to reply back with your full name to sign up.
  • Twitter will then send a message back to you and assign you a username based on your full name.
  • You're all set. Send a text message and it will post as your first Tweet!

To send the message from the phone you need to register the phone on the satellite system and then go to:
Menu > Messages > Create Message >Enter "START" > Options > Send > Add > Select > Enter "40404" > OK

You can change your twitter settings using the normal SMS comands available through Twitter.

Please note that standard text messaging charges apply to twitter posts.
