Amazon Getting Ready For Launching Kuiper in Vietnam

Amazon is advancing its Project Kuiper satellite broadband rollout in Vietnam, targeting the delivery of high-speed internet to underserved communities as early as late. The company aims to operate a network of over 3,200 low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide widespread coverage, with speeds anticipated to reach up to **400 Mbps for individuals** and **1 Gbps for businesses**—significantly boosting digital access across remote, rural, and island regions

Amazon's Vietnam Expansion: What’s in Play

Project Kuiper, anchored through the newly founded Amazon Kuiper Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Ho Chi Minh City, is underpinned by Vietnam’s revised regulatory stance that welcomes global satellite providers under pilot telecommunications program. Amazon filed an application in August, collaborating closely with Vietnam’s telecom and science ministries to advance the technical groundwork required for this initiative. The government aims to submit the pilot project to the Prime Minister by September, moving toward commercial service launch by the end of 2025

Service Reach and Societal Benefits

Amazon’s LEO constellation is engineered to support digital transformation across Vietnam, directly aligning with national strategies for universal high-speed coverage by 2030. The service is designed to empower up to 600,000 local subscribers across household, commercial, government, aviation, and maritime sectors]. Easy-to-install terminals that include advanced AWS-level security will help bridge Vietnam’s persistent connectivity gaps, enabling better access to digital platforms, smoother e-governance, education, and e-commerce for remote communities.

Regulatory Context and Competition

Vietnam’s advancing legal framework has already enabled SpaceX’s Starlink to receive an initial pilot license, positioning both Kuiper and SpaceX in a competitive race to deliver internet services to Vietnam’s hardest-to-reach populations. Starlink, having deployed thousands of satellites internationally, currently enjoys a first-mover status, while Viettel, the leading Vietnamese telecom, has also shown keen interest in LEO innovation but has yet to disclose concrete results

Strategic Impact

Amazon’s Project Kuiper is expected to serve as a cornerstone for Vietnam’s digital infrastructure and Fourth Industrial Revolution ambitions, targeting inclusive economic growth through technology. The smooth rollout of this pioneering satellite service will depend heavily on regulatory support, local manufacturing partnerships, and the rapid resolution of technical challenges to ensure timely and cost-effective service availability nationwide.
